The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER, Kolkata) has been created as a centre of excellence for higher education, research and development in pharmaceutical sciences.

The Institute offers in M.S.(Pharm.) in Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products and Pharmacoinformatics. The Institute admits students for the M.S(Pharm.) through a common entrance test conducted by NIPER, Mohali. In future the number of M.S. programs would be increased and Ph.D programs would also be started in various disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences every year.

Convocation of NIPER-Kolkata

The third convocation for 96 M.S. (Pharm.) students (47 who graduated in 2012 and 47 who graduated in 2013) of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Kolkata was held at 3 PM on Friday the 25th May, 2013 in the Dr.J.C. Ray Auditorium in the premises of Indian Institute of Chemical Biology at 4, Raja S.C. Mullick Road, Jadavpur, Kolkata-700032. The convocation was presided over by Sri.Shambhu Kallolikar, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Govt. of India & Member Steering Committee of NIPER-Kolkata and Padmanabhan Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was the Guest-in-Chief. Dr.Siddhartha Roy, the Director of IICB, the mentor institute & Chairman, Advisory Committee, NIPER-Kolkata administered the exhortation to the recipients of the degrees. Dr.J.R.Vedasiromoni, Registrar, NIPER-Kolkata read out the names of the recipients of the medals and prizes and Sri. Shambhu Kallolikar awarded the medals and prizes to the recipients. Six students in each batch received medals and the five toppers in each batch received special prizes. After addresses by Dr.Siddhartha Roy, Director IICB, and Dr.Asish Kr.Banerjee, Project Director, NIPER-Kolkata, Prof. Balaram, the Guest-in-Chief, delivered the convocation address. This was followed by address by Sri. Shambhu Kallolikar. Then the names of the recipients of the degrees were read out by Dr.Asish Kr.Banerjee, Project Director, NIPER-Kolkata and 52 students received their M.S. (Pharm.) degree scrolls from Sri.Shambhu Kallolikar. Forty four students were awarded their degrees in absentia. The convocation was then declared closed by Sri.Shambhu Kallolikar.
